It turns out I was unwittingly putting my hdc in the top of the stitch I had worked my 4th fptr in (i.e., one stitch too early).

I’d like to note, in case this is useful for anyone: in my cozy, once I had done it correctly, there was a large gap after each cable cluster in Row 11 (and 15 and 19). Don’t know if that’s just how it was for me or if it also happened to other people. As I crocheted Row 20, I closed the big gaps in Row 19 by including the unused back loop of the stitch below each gap in my hdcs.

Thank you to Nancy for creating and sharing her pattern, and thank you to the anonymous commenter for sharing their Row 11 breakthrough.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2928116989878596587.post-34902982815404674922020-12-14T19:31:03.364-08:002020-12-14T19:31:03.364-08:00That was awesome!! So to begin make a hdc in the 1St stitch. look at the row below and from the beginning count from right to left 3 stitches. This is for the hdc and the 2 skipped stitches. Then in the 4the stitch work the front post treble crochet. Then in the next stitch another fptc. Go back to the 2 skipped stitches and work the fptcs. There should b a second row behind the treble crochet row seeing u are working around the posts and not into the top of the stitches. you should be able to see the unworked loops as well as the hdc in the 1St stitch. Count 4 of the unworked loops (stitches) from the hdc. Hdc in the 5th stitch. Hdc in the 6th stitch. Then look at the row below again and u should b able to see the loops around the post of the stitches from the fptc. Count 2 stitches from the last treble crochet (for the 2hdc above) and count 2more for the stitches we are supposed to skip. Now work a fptc in the 5th and the 6th stitch. Then go back and work the fptc in the 2 skipped stitches. Keep going around until the row is done. The last stitch will b a hdc in the 1st stitch of the previous row and can be hard to spot but it's there. After I figured this out I had no mistakes. Hope this helps.
